How long ago did you move to OKC?
I moved to the Oklahoma City metro area in August of 1999.
Where did you move from?
My husband and I moved here from Stillwater, Oklahoma where we attended OSU
Where do you live, and how do you feel about the area?
We live in Edmond, and we love it very much. The schools and neighborhoods are fantastic. It is so close to the city, but yet it is definitely its own community.
Why did you move to the Oklahoma City area?
After graduating with a BS in Education, I thought I would have my pick of schools. They don't teach you that you will be hard pressed to find anyone who wants to try out a rookie. Many interviews later, they all said the same thing: "We went with someone with more experience." One week before school started, I got a phone call. There was a school in OKC that desperately needed a 2nd grade teacher. And what do you know, they liked me. That gave us 5 days to find a house. We looked everywhere and thought there was no hope. Then, we saw a FOR RENT sign. She said, "Wow! I just put that up 5 minutes ago!"
What would you say have been your biggest challenges?
We have not had any major challenges since moving here. The people are so kind and helpful. My job is a short drive away, yet I am able to not live in the middle of the city, and Edmond is a great place to raise kids. My only complaint is that the city has grown significantly, just in the time we've lived here. Waiting at all the stoplights and driving down Broadway takes about twice as long as it used to, so you have to get a bit more creative with your routes.
Advice
- If you are looking for a place to live that is pleasant and fun, the metro area is the best choice. There are many suburbs you could live in if you don't want to be in the heart of the city. And the city itself has all the sparkle of a bigger city (GO THUNDER!!!) but still is home to some of the nicest people in the country. Keep looking!! You will find the perfect place to call home.
