Oklahoma Much Improved in Wasteful Spending Rank
According to the 2006 edition of the Pig Book, published by Citizens Against Government Waste, the state of Oklahoma is one of the best in terms of avoiding wasteful spending. Improving more than 30 spots in the rankings, Oklahoma is now considered a leader in "pork per capita."
Oklahoma Restaurant Smoking Ban in Effect
Oklahoma restaurants must either be completely smoke-free or offer a separate, ventilated room for smokers. At the very least, supporters say, the new regulations will cut down on complications from second-hand smoke. At best, the added hardship on smokers may encourage more to quit.
The Oklahoma State Quarter
It will soon be Oklahoma's turn to have the state memorialized on a quarter. Although it won't be issued until January of 2008, residents of Oklahoma can submit their ideas for the design. A prototype is expected to be revealed in 2007.
Oklahoma Under Burn Ban as Wild Fires Rage Across State
Much of the state of Oklahoma is now in a critical state of warning regarding conditions ripe for fires. With the prolonged dry spell throughout the state combined with windy weather, wildfires have raged across Oklahoma and neighboring states, destroying land and homes. The situation is dire, a burn ban is in place and residents must take precautions.
