Oklahoma City Turkey Trot Classic - Thanksgiving Run

Background:

Now in its 13th year, the Turkey Trot Classic is a running event held annually at Thanksgiving, featuring a USATF-sanctioned 5k race, a children's run and a one-mile fun run. Sponsored by the Eagle Ridge Institute, the event benefits a number of programs at Eagle Ridge including nonprofit social services for at-risk families, youth and women. Proceeds also benefit Special Olympics of Oklahoma Capitol Area.

2012 Turkey Run Details:

In 2012, the Turkey Trot Classic will be held on the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 23rd, at the Myriad Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City, with the starting line on Reno Avenue south of the grounds.

The 200 yard children's run begins at at 8 a.m., and the 1 mile fun run/walk starts about 15 mintues later. The 5k run kicks off at 8:40 a.m., and there will be activities in the Myriad Gardens through the morning. Race day registration and check-in begin at 7 a.m.

Course Map:

Starting at Reno south of the Myriad Gardens, the Turkey Trot Classic travels south on Walker and then east along the Oklahoma River before turning north up Robinson and back to the gardens. See a detailed map.

Registration:

All runners must register and can do so online. Early registration is $26 for the 5k race and $10 for the one mile "Wobble." There is no cost for children under 12 to register for the 200 yard run. Registrants can also choose to purchase a t-shirt while supplies last.

Runners with dogs are allowed at the Turkey Trot Classic. An awards ceremony follows the race.
