The 2005 Holiday Bowl

The Oregon Ducks

By Adam Knapp, About.com

Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks finished 2nd in the Pac-10 Conference with a 10-1 record, their only loss coming to the #1 ranked Trojans of USC. Coached by Mike Belloti, Oregon finished the season ranked 8th in both the AP and Coaches polls. Their #5 ranking in the BCS was not enough to get them in a BCS bowl, and many consider them to have been snubbed.

Oregon's offense ranks 16th nationally in total yards with over 456 average per game, and their defense ranks 48th in yards allowed per game.

This season, Oregon has beaten Houston, Montana, Fresno State, Stanford, Arizona State, Washington, Arizona, California, Washington State and Oregon State. Their only loss came to USC, 45-13. Their largest margin of victory was 42 points (Oregon State), and their closest margin of victory was 3 points (Washington State and Fresno State).

Key offensive players for the Ducks include RB Terrence Whitehead, who leads the team in rushing, Demetrius Williams, who leads the team in receiving, and Dennis Dixon, sophomore starting QB replacing the injured Senior Kellen Clemens.

Key defensive players for the Ducks include DT Haloti Ngata, Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Pac-10, CB Aaron Gipson, who leads the team with 7 interceptions, and Anthony Trucks, who leads the team in both tackles and sacks.
