Groupon in Oklahoma City

By , About.com Guide

Groupon, a coupon site focused on "Collective Buying Power," now lists Oklahoma City as one of the available cities. Here is a quick tip with information on Groupon that includes how it works, how to sign up and what kind of coupons and savings you might receive in Oklahoma City.

What is Groupon?

Groupon is a coupon website that launched in November of 2008. Its goal is to offer a special daily discount deal. Users can register their email address and receive the new deals each day. Currently, Groupon operates in over 50 cities, most of which are in the United States. Oklahoma City was added in early 2010.

How does Groupon work?

The concept is actually pretty simple. Each day, an Oklahoma City business offers a coupon. If enough people sign up to purchase it, it becomes valid. If not, the coupon is rescinded. As the site calls it, "Collective Buying Power." Here's an example. Let's say an Oklahoma City business offered a $60 service for 50 percent off. The deal might require 15 to purchase. If more than 15 purchase, all can take advantage, but if it doesn't reach 15, those who purchased would not be charged.

What kind of Oklahoma City businesses offer coupons on Groupon?

The concept is sure to spread, and a number of restaurants and businesses will likely offer discounts through Groupon. The first few to offer daily deals were Pure Spa on NW 63rd, Market-C and the Bricktown Brewery.

How do I sign up?

Just go to groupon.com and select Oklahoma City from the dropdown menu. Your browser will then default to the Oklahoma City-specific site. To subscribe, all you have to do is enter your email address, and the daily deal will be sent to you. To take advantage of deals, you'll need to create an account with Groupon.
