Oklahoma City Metro Area Cell Phone Providers

By

Here is information on Oklahoma City metro area cell phone providers, with company listings, general plan details and links to dealer retail locations.

OKC Major Cell Phone Providers

  • Sprint - Known for their "Fair and Flexible" cell phone plans, Sprint offers phones, business solutions, Nextel walkie talkies. See below listing of Cox Communications for information on "Pivot."

Available Plans: Eric Bernatchez, About.com's Guide to Cell Phones, has a directory of available Sprint plans for OKC.

Dealer Locations: Sprint has an online store finder, and there are multiple dealers around the metro including in Penn Square Mall and Quail Springs Mall.

Coverage: Sprint's coverage in the middle of the metro is nearly absolute. Holes in coverage don't appear until you get as far Northwest as Kingfisher, several miles Northeast of Edmond, East of Norman and Moore, or Southwest of El Reno. Check Sprint's coverage map online.

  • AT&T/Cingular - Known for their "Nation" plans, AT&T (formerly Cingular) claims to have the "fewest dropped calls" of any network. Who knows if that's actually true. But they do have a number of options for business wireless, unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling and many phone/plan pacakges.

Available Plans: Eric Bernatchez, About.com's Guide to Cell Phones, has a directory of available AT&T/Cingular plans for OKC.

Dealer Locations: AT&T has an online store finder, and there are multiple dealers around the metro including near Penn Square Mall and the well-known Jackie Cooper Electronics locations.

Coverage: AT&T's coverage in the metro is very solid. With the exception of small dead spots, you'd have to go about 20 miles or so East or West of Guthrie, Southwest beyond Mustang or Southeast of Norman to be out of range. Check AT&T's coverage map online.

  • T-Mobile - Formerly known as VoiceStream in the metro, T-Mobile is known partially for several "Whenever Minutes" plans. Value depends on needs, of course, but T-Mobile has plenty of options for individuals, businesses and families.

Available Plans: Eric Bernatchez, About.com's Guide to Cell Phones, has a directory of available T-Mobile plans for OKC.

Dealer Locations: T-Mobile has an online store finder, and there are multiple dealers around the metro including in Penn Square Mall and Quail Springs Mall as well as in many Wal-Marts.

Coverage: T-Mobile's coverage in the metro is good, though signal strength varies depending on specific location. Holes in coverage appear East of Moore, Northwest of Yukon and Northeast of Edmond. Check T-Mobile's coverage map online.

  • U.S. Cellular - U.S. Cellular touts their J.D. Power and Associates ranking as one of the better wireless performers. They've been around since the 1980's but have only recently become a big part of the Oklahoma City market.

Available Plans: Eric Bernatchez, About.com's Guide to Cell Phones, has a directory of available U.S. Cellular plans for OKC.

Dealer Locations: U.S. Cellular has an online store finder, and there are multiple dealers around the metro including in Quail Springs Mall and near Penn Square Mall. There are also U.S. Cellular stores in Edmond and Midwest City.

Coverage: U.S. Cellular's coverage depends in the metro, slightly less so for mobile-to-mobile plans. On national calling plans, though, you won't find many dead spots without going near the Oklahoma panhandle or the southeastern part of the state. Check U.S. Cellular's coverage map online.

  • Alltel - Not quite as big of an industry leader as some of the others, Alltel nonetheless is a player in the OKC market with their "My Circle" idea in which subscribers have 10 numbers they can call for free.

Available Plans: Eric Bernatchez, About.com's Guide to Cell Phones, has a directory of available Alltel plans for OKC.

Dealer Locations: Alltel has an online store finder, and there are multiple dealers around the metro including Penn Square Mall and Quail Springs Mall Alltel Retail Stores. Circuit City is also an Alltel dealer.

Coverage: Alltel's coverage may depend on your plan. Prepaid plans don't seem to have as wide a coverage area around the OKC metro as do the "National Freedom" plans. Alltel doesn't have a detailed coverage map online as many others do, so check with your dealer about dead spots depending on your plan.

  • Cricket Communications - Cricket Communications launched their OKC wireless service in 2008. The company specializes in pay-in-advance cell phone service and is the 8th largest carrier in the U.S. It is billed as a lower cost alternative, claiming a plan "for your lifestyle and your budget."

Available Plans: Eric Bernatchez, About.com's Guide to Cell Phones, has a directory of available Cricket plans.

Dealer Locations: Cricket has an online store finder, and there are multiple dealers around the metro, notably their presence in Wal-Mart stores.

Coverage: Cricket coverage will be good in both the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metro areas, but signals will be lost in rural areas outside of the cities.
