Guide Review - B.J.'s Brewhouse & Restaurant

B.J.'s Brewhouse opened near the mall in NW Oklahoma City in 2007, and visitors would be immediately struck by the spacious, contemporary decor. An expansive bar area covers the north side with flat screen televisions positioned throughout, and the main dining area includes comfortable booths and large tables.

I've always found the service to be quite capable in my several visits to B.J.'s. A hostess greets you warmly upon your entrance, and servers are knowledgeable in the food and the vast drink selection. On a couple of occasions, my server was able to recommend a quality beer choice based on my tastes. Like many restaurants, though, it occasionally takes a bit of time to receive your drink from the bar if you're not seated there.

Those drinks are worth the wait. At B.J.'s, you'll find unique beers brewed in a number of world styles. Seven beers are on tap, including a pale ale, Irish-style red, wheat beer and stout. In addition, the restaurant has specialty and seasonal beers, offering plenty of choices throughout the year.

While I've found the beers I've sampled to be quite good, I can't always say the same thing about the food. I love the deep dish pizzas and calzones but have had somewhat uneven results with some of the sandwiches, which include a choice between thin, crispy fries and seasoned wedges. Personally, I prefer the latter.

Even though you might not be wowed by the food quality, B.J.'s is still worth a visit if you're looking for a casual but contemporary brewhouse with unique drinks to sample. Most of the entree prices are quite reasonable. Pasta dishes run in the $11-15 while hamburgers and sandwiches are $9-11 or so. Appetizers and specialty salads might be a tad high (several are $9-13), but portion sizes on all dishes are generous.
