About Norman:

The city of Norman is known primarily as the home of the University of Oklahoma. And even though it is certainly a college town in many respects, Norman boasts nearly 100,000 permanent residents, rapidly developing affluent residential and commercial areas and a charming, historic downtown area. Named after surveyor Abner E. Norman, began in 1870 and became a destination of "Sooners," those who jumped the gun of the official Land Run, in the late 1800's.

Located about 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City, Norman's status as a part of the "metro" is often debated. With the continued development of south OKC, though, the gap seems to grow smaller and smaller. With a territory of nearly 190 square miles, the popular Lake Thunderbird and a number of unique sights and attractions, Norman has been called by Money Magazine one of the top places to live in the US.

Location:

Traveling on I-35 south from Oklahoma City will bring you right to Norman. The most developed portion of the city is primarily located to the east of the interstate, south to State Highway 9, with Lake Thunderbird even further east. Major roads include Robinson, Main, Boyd, Lindsey, 12th and more.

Demographics:

Norman's population has increased by several thousand since the 2000 census and now sits around 103,000, making it the 3rd largest city in the Oklahoma behind OKC and Tulsa. Median household income as of 2005 was $38,636, slightly higher than the state average, and the median home value is $126,200, significantly higher than the state average of $89,100.
