About Del City:
Del City was founded in 1946 as a residential development by George Epperly and reportedly named for his daughter, Delaphene. Incorporated in 1948, the small area is home to a number of Tinker Air Force base personnel and retired servicemen and women. The Del City War Memorial is a tribute to that heritage, and the Del City/Shriners Armed Forces Day Parade is held each May.
Located in the east/southeast part of the Oklahoma City metro, Del City spreads about 7.5 square miles and includes many housing areas, its own city government separate of Oklahoma City and a school district in conjunction with nearby Midwest City.
Del City sits between Oklahoma City and Midwest City along SE 15th and SE 29th with Sooner Road and Tinker Air Force Base to its east. It stretches slightly north of SE 15th and south as far as SE 59th. Other major roads include Sunnylane and SE 44th.
The population of Del City is a bit less than 22,000, a slight decline from its 2000 census number. Median household income as of 2005 was $34,200, over $2800 less than the state average, and the median home value is $67,400, significantly less than the state average of $89,100.
