Oklahoma City's Tiger Safari Inc. Profile

By Adam Knapp, About.com

Background:

One of Oklahoma City's top places for kids and families is the educational fun at Tiger Safari, Inc., located just outside the metro in Tuttle. A non-profit, walk-through wildlife facility, Tiger Safari allows you to get up close with the animals on guided tours. With over 100 animals on 45 acres, this is certainly one of the more unique experiences around OKC.
Tiger Safari Interactive Zoological Park opened in 2003 and is completely funded by private donations. Among the animals housed in the sanctuary are deer, alligators, porcupines, bears, pythons and of course tigers. Park Director Bill Meadows is an Oklahoma City Fire Fighter and has been working with big cats for 15 years.

Hours of Operation:

The park is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 5pm. During the week, Tiger Safari does tours by appointment including birthday parties, corporate functions, family reunions, school field trips, special events and more. See below for more details.

Location:

Tuttle, Oklahoma is just a short drive southwest of the Oklahoma City metro. To get to Tiger Safari, take I-44 west to Hwy. 37 (Exit 108). Then follow Hwy. 37 west to Frisco Rd. Turn south on Frisco Rd. About 2 and a half miles later, Tiger Safari will be on your left.

Tiger Safari has maps available online to help.

Admission:

Regular admission is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids. The little ones (under 2) are free.

Birthday Parties:

You can reserve either the Tropical Rain Forest Room or the Lion King Room for your child's next birthday party. The first 15 guests are included in a $105 package that provides pavilion use, private tour, tiger and bear feeding stations, petting zoo and more. Extra guests are $5 each.

A $30 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking.

With a 20 person minimum, group and school tour packages are available for $5.50 per person. These include pavilion use, guided tour and the tiger feeding station. For $6 per person, the tour also includes a hayride.

For groups under 20, the cost is $7 per person.

Bringing the Animals to You:

Really interested in Tiger Safari but can't get down to Tuttle to see all the great animals? Well whether it's a school assembly, company picnic or anything else, a trained professional will bring an exotic animal to you for $150 and will bring additional animals for $50 each. Birds, reptiles, cats... Whatever your preference, Tiger Safari can take them into your home.
