Background:

Science Museum Oklahoma, formerly called the Omniplex, is one of OKC's premiere educational entertainment attractions. With exhibits, a planetarium, galleries, gardens and greenhouses, Science Museum Oklahoma offers a rare opportunity to experience amazing and interactive education.Founded in 1962, the Omniplex moved into its current location in the Kirkpatrick Center museum complex in 1978 and changed its name to Science Museum Oklahoma in 2007. Along with exhibits and the Kirkpatrick Planetarium, Science Museum Oklahoma features an air and space museum, the Kirkpatrick Gardens and Greenhouse and the Dome Theater.

Location:

Science Museum Oklahoma is located next to the Oklahoma City Zoo at 2100 NE 52nd in the part of town called Adventure District. It is south of I-44 and west of I-35, just off Martin Luther King Ave.

Exhibits:

There is literally everything under the sun for science-minded individuals at Science Museum Oklahoma. Interactive exhibits and unique displays make the museum a truly amazing educational experience. See everything from World War II airplanes in the Aviation and Space exhibits to the visual wonders of Richardson's Fractal Art Exhibition.ExploraZone gives visitors the opportunity to actively participate in scientific exploration of wind, weather and illusions. But that's not all; there are also hands-on exhibits for kids and historical collections of artifacts for adults.

The Planetarium:

Science Museum Oklahoma's Planetarium gives visitors an opportunity to explore the wonders of space. See fascinating shows on stars and the depths of the universe, and get the latest news and images from NASA and the world's leading astronomers.

The Dome Theater:

Opened in 2000, the Dome Theater has a screen with a 70-foot diameter. Using the most technologically advanced projection system available and state of the art sound, the theater shows everything from mysterious journies across the far reaches of the world to visual explorations of animals and nature.

Admission and Hours of Operation:

The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm, Saturday from 9am-6pm and Sunday from 11am-6pm.

There are various admission options. Regular ticket prices are $13.50 for adults and $10.25 for children (3-12) and seniors (64+). Exhibit only tickets are available for $9.50 (adults) and $8.25 (children and seniors). Check here for detailed pricing information or call (405) 602-6664.

Museum Membership:

Science Museum Oklahoma members are entitled to free unlimited admission to exhibits, the Planetarium and more than 250 other science museums worldwide for one year. They also receive a quarterly magazine and discounts on birthday parties, store purchases and educational classes at the museum.

Food, Store Etc.:

The Garden Cafe has inside or picnic seating available and serves a wide variety of foods from hamburgers and sandwiches to salads and breakfast. Group rates are available for dining parties of 15 or more, but you should call ahead - (405) 602-3760.

The Museum Store has plenty of gift-giving or souvenir options. There are games, puzzles, science kits, telescopes, DVDs, candles, aquariums and so much more.

Parking at Science Museum Oklahoma is free.
