Background:

Constructed in 1904, the Harn Homestead occupies nearly 10 acres of land on NE 16th. Complete with furnishings from the pre-Oklahoma statehood period, the Harn Homestead and 1889ers Museum is one of the more intriguing museums in Oklahoma City. It features the original Victorian home, a one-room schoolhouse, a stone and cedar barn with enclosed windmill and a working farm.
In addition, the Museum rents out the Homestead for weddings, reunions, parties and events. There are extensive guided tours, programs and events and the "Territorial Christmas" celebration in December.

Admission and Hours of Operation:

The Harn Homestead is open from 10am-2pm, Monday through Friday. Tours go from 2pm-4pm. Admission price is $5 while children 3 and under are admitted free. They are closed the entire month of August and all major holidays.

Location:

313 NE 16th Street in Oklahoma City.

Just East of I-235, vistors can take Lincoln Blvd. to NE 16th and turn West.

Tours and Activities:

Guided tours last about 30 minutes and are given for groups of 15-30 on a reservation basis. Individuals may tour the building and grounds by themselves. There is a picnic style lunch available on the outdoor picnic tables, and children can participate in such activities as chopping wood, tub laundry and fence white-washing.

Homestead Rental:

The Harn Homestead can be rented for virtually any event including weddings, parties and reunions. The staff assists in arrangements such as catering and entertainment, and the picturesque site is ideal for a memorable event.

Contact:

Reservations or information can be made by contacting the Harn Homestead at (405) 235-4058 or on their website's contact form.

A Territorial Christmas:

December 2005 will mark the debut of "A Territorial Christmas" celebration at the Harn Homestead. On December 1st, 8th and 15, from 5-8pm, the event features hayrides, photos with Santa, caroling by members of the Canterbury Choral Society and territorial holiday crafts. Hot chocolate, cider, cookies and coffee are provided.

Admission for the event is $5 and free for children 3 and younger. Large groups should call in advance.
