By , About.com Guide

July 4th celebrations around Oklahoma City are numerous with Red, White & Boom on the River being the premiere event. Other large events include Bricktown's OG&E OKC Salute, Bethany's Centennial Freedom Festival and Yukon's Freedom Fest.

Edmond's LibertyFest

Selected by CNN as one of the top 10 "Places to be in America on July 4th," Edmond's LibertyFest is a weeklong celebration of the nation's birth. With one of the state's largest hometown parades, one of the largest fireworks displays in the state and over 120,000 visitors, it's an event not to be missed.

Date and Times: Edmond's LibertyFest begins in late June with a concert on the 25th and a car show on the 27th. The LibertyFest KiteFest and Rodeo are on the 27th and 28th, and the "Taste of Edmond" food festival runs on June 28th. The LibertyFest Parade begins at 8:45 a.m. on the morning of July 4th, and the fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m.

Location: Many of the LibertyFest events take place in downtown Edmond (north on Broadway extension to Edmond Road). The best viewing for the fireworks is on the grounds of the UCO campus east of downtown on Edmond Road (2nd Street).

Events: There is no charge for viewing the huge, 100-entry LibertyFest Parade, concert or the fireworks display, but the "Taste of Edmond" food festival on June 28th costs $10 for adults. Children under 10 are free. Admission allows you to sample the food from all the different restaurants.

The UCO Summer Band will be performing a one hour concert of patriotic tunes at 7:30 p.m. on June 25th at Mitchell Hall Theatre.

The July 4th parade travels through downtown Edmond. A map of the route is available in Adobe PDF format online.

Food, Vendors and More: Later in the day on July 4th (from 5-9 p.m.), there will be food, music, rides and games on the grounds of the UCO campus. Seating won't be provided, but you can bring lawn chairs or blankets. Free watermelon will be provided. Neither pets nor coolers are allowed.
