In Short:

There are plenty of frightening Halloween events around the Oklahoma City metro, but take the short drive to Shawnee for the annual Boo on Bell Street if you want a fun, safe event for the entire family.

Held downtown, Shawnee's Boo on Bell is presented by Safe Events for Families in conjunction with other non-profit organizations and has carnival games, live music, a costume contest, car show, story-telling, trick-or-treating and much more.

2013 Date and Time:

The 2013 Boo on Bell Street takes place on October 23-26. Activities begin around 6 p.m. during the week and 10 a.m. on Saturday, with Main Street trick-or-treating from 3:30 to 5 and the carnival until 9 p.m. You can find a full event schedule online.

Location:

Historic downtown Shawnee is the site for Boo on Bell. From Oklahoma City, take I-40 East for about 25 minutes. Then merge onto Highway 177 South into Shawnee. The 270 BL West will take you to Highway 18, which intersects with Bell. Head north on Bell from Highway 18.

Events:

It's not Halloween without trick-or-treating, right? Well, Boo on Bell has that. Sponsored by Downtown Shawnee Merchants, the "Pumpkinville Main Street Trick or Treat" is free and open to children 12 and under.

But that's certainly not all to Boo on Bell. Here are just a few more events to check out...

Boo-Rod Auto Show:

Name the era, and there will probably be an automobile in representation of it. Check out cars from the nearly every decade in Woodland Park and vote for your favorite.

Pet Costume Contest:

These are always a lot of fun. Which pet will take home the prize in the Monster Mash costume contest? The contest is held off Bell at the Community Marketplace.

Paranormal Tour:

Take a paranormal tour of Shawnee’s most haunted buildings. The "13 Spirits" tour visits Hobgood Manor, an actual murder site.

Twilight Carnival:

Play all your favorite carnival games. Each booth is run by a non-profit organization, raising money for a number of very worthy causes.

And Much More...:

But that's not even all. There's a parade, a hayride, a hot dog eating contest, bingo, a costume contest with prizes awarded in several age divisions, live entertainment at "Macabre Theatre," a craft and gift emporium, jack-o-lantern contest, street dance and more.

Plenty of live music and entertainment is on hand, and the food court offers all the carnival favorites such as Indian Tacos, Funnel Cakes, Burgers and more.
