Oklahoma City Resident Survey

Citizen Opinions Obtained by City Survey

In early 2006, the City of Oklahoma City released the results of a survey of city residents. The survey, the 1st of its kind since 1987, asked a variety of questions on resident opinions of city issues and performance. Some of the results were surprising and pointed to an overwhelming satisfaction with public safety services and dissatisfaction with city roads.

Those two issues saw a large discrepancy with 83% of those surveyed saying they were either 'satisfied' or 'very satisfied' with public safety services such as police, fire and emergency response. On the other side of the spectrum, 54% of respondents said they were 'dissatisfied' with the state of Oklahoma City roads.

But that was far from the end of the citizen opinions. In fact, the report of results came in at a whopping 164 pages, breaking down the responses with graphs and charts to help explain the opinions of some 1348 people in Oklahoma City. Among the more interesting survey responses:
  • The 3 areas residents feel need the most attention in the next year are street maintenance (easily the most mentioned), flow of traffic and quality of emergency services
  • 88% rated the city as a 'good' or 'excellent' place to live
  • 71% were satisfied with life in Oklahoma City
  • 77% were satisfied that the city is moving in the right direction
  • 66% were satisfied with the city as a place to visit
  • Nearly 70% have lived in OKC more than 20 years
  • 89% have visited downtown in the past year
  • 88% were satisfied with trash collection services
  • 86% were satisfied with water services
  • Only 35% were satisfied with city efforts to remove inoperable vehicles
  • Only 34% were satisfied with city swimming pools and programs
  • Only 37% were satisfied with the cleanliness of the city streets
