Originally formed in 2000, the Made in Oklahoma (MIO) Coalition is a consortium of food manufacturers operating in Oklahoma. The group's primary focus is the marketing and sales of local products, and the membership includes a number of longtime Oklahoma companies, from manufacturers to distributors. Throughout the year, a number of Made in Oklahoma promotions take place, including an annual recipe contest and a cookbook, both focused on utilizing Made in Oklahoma products.

Often, Oklahomans are surprised to learn that many of the products they have purchased for years are actually produced locally. Others choose to buy Made in Oklahoma brands in order to support local companies and their employees. A full list of Made in Oklahoma products is available below, but some of the more popular names include dairy products from Hiland, Borden and Braum's and meats such as Bar-S hot dogs and JC Potter sausage. Griffin Foods, maker of a number of sauces and condiments, is an Oklahoma company, as is Shawnee Mills, producer of popular baking mixes.

Not only can you find Made in Oklahoma (MIO) products for your personal use in area grocery stores, but a number of popular Oklahoma City area restaurants make use of Made in Oklahoma products in their menu offerings. The list includes such eateries as Bricktown Brewery, Cattlemen's Steakhouse, Coach's, Deep Fork Grill, Irma's Burger Shack, Jimmy's Egg, Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler, Pearl's Crabtown, Coach House, Metro Wine Bar & Bistro and many more.

Annual Recipe Contest & Cookbook:

Each year, typically in late spring/early summer, the Made in Oklahoma Coalition presents a recipe contest open to submissions of original entree, dessert or kid's cuisine recipes that utilize at least two Made in Oklahoma products.

In addition, a cookbook entitled "Tastefully Oklahoma" is available at local grocery stores, Full Circle, Steve’s Sundries, Barnes & Noble, Borders locations for $16.95. The 126-page collection features contest-winning recipes and submissions from more than a thousand Oklahomans, many of which are also available online.
