Top 10 Opportunities for Seasonal Employment in Oklahoma City

By Adam Knapp, About.com

Need extra cash for Christmas presents? There are several opportunities throughout the Oklahoma City area to get an extra, seasonal job. You can work only a few weeks and pick up spending money.

The best seasonal jobs require little training. Sometimes it's physical activity while other times it's sales or phones. Companies bring in extra people around the holidays with little time and money spent on preparing them. So consider checking the areas where you already have a bit of experience.

1. Call Center Representative

Most call center representatives make a couple dollars more than minimum wage, and schedules are fairly flexible. If you have good customer service and computer skills, this may be the job for you. Make a little extra money manning the phones.

2. Sales

Are you a natural salesman? Convincing and likable? Consider seasonal sales opportunities to pick up a little extra cash. Often, you can set your own schedule and work on your own.

3. Warehouse / Stockroom

If you prefer to stay out of the public relations, consider working in a stock room or warehouse. With holiday shopping, companies often have an increased demand during the season for warehouse help. Make sure you can lift at least 50 pounds, though, as it'll likely be required.

4. Cashier / Clerk

Do you have experience working a cash register? If so, many companies would love to have you for a few weeks around the holidays. Make a little extra money at any one of a number of shopping establishments by manning a register.

5. Delivery Driver

If you have a good driving record and possibly some experience in delivery, that may be an option for some seasonal work. Many companies, especially the delivery companies, hire extra drivers during the holiday. The pay is typically pretty good and the work not too strenuous.

6. Promotions

A number of companies that rely on holiday events look for additional promotional help around November and December. You may consider promoting cell phone company plans, toy campaigns or Christmas events. Either way, you can pick up some extra money doing some marketing.

7. Christmas Tree Sales

There are usually a number of Christmas tree lots that spring up around the city during the holidays, and they need people to sell and load trees. Also, a number of the retail stores sell Christmas trees and hire extra people in their lawn & garden departments to do the work. There isn't a lot of experience required, but you should be prepared for lifting and tying down trees.

8. Avon Sales

Some people swear by selling Avon for making extra money. While this is probably something that would require starting several weeks in advance of the holiday season, it might be a good way to pick up some commission money. If you have a number of friends who buy Avon anyway or are able to get in touch with several who may want to give Avon products for gifts, this could be the way to go.

9. Photographer or Photo Assistant

Other than gift shopping, the holidays also bring photo taking. The business for the retail photographers always jumps tremendously around Christmas time, and they often hire an extra person or two to either help out or actually take pictures. If you have photography experience, this could be a great method of making some holiday cash.

10. Custodial Work

Hey, it might not always be pretty, but there are a number of opportunities available. Custodial work typically allows you to work late hours, giving you the chance to do it in addition to another job. Offices, retail establishments or schools are only a few of the places that hire custodians, and the training is usually quick. You could get started immediately and make a few extra bucks in your spare time.
