Homelessness in Oklahoma City - Voucher Program Gives True Assistance

Many people say that the world is a cruel place. And while that may be true, there is also a lot of love out there. Organizations throughout Oklahoma, the United States and the world make it their mission to provide assistance for the unfortunate. For many, feelings of helplessness are inevitable as they survey suffering.

Oklahoma City, of course, is no different. As Bricktown reaches new heights as an entertainment capital and the state reaps benefits from a positive energy-based economy, it is often important to remember those that struggle to get by. Just as in every large city in the country, the metro area has its share of homeless and other disadvantaged.

Walking along downtown, you may encounter them and wonder what you can do to help. In the past, you may have slipped them a few bucks if you're a kindly soul. But if you're a pessimistic or very careful person, you may have done as many do and walked right on by.

It's difficult to even fault anyone for that reaction. After all, there are potential dangers best to avoid. But even beyond that, who's to even say your donation or assistance is actually needed or will be put to good use? It's a warranted concern that the few bucks you provide will only be spent on alcohol or drugs.

And that's where a new voucher program created by the Oklahoma City Homeless Alliance and Downtown OKC comes into play.
