Getting a Library Card
In order to check out books at any Oklahoma City Library, a library card is required. Cards are free and available for customers who live in or own property in Oklahoma City or Oklahoma County. To obtain a card, all you have to do is visit one of the locations listed below. An application is required, as are two current forms of identification (for example, driver's license, social security card, military ID, student ID, current credit card). You'll need to show proof of address. For kids under 17, a parent or guardian must show identification, sign the application, and co-sign the card.For information on reciprocal service or cards for people who live outside the above area, visit or contact a library location below.
Checking Out Books
Once you have a Metropolitan Library System card, you can check out books at any of the Oklahoma City area locations below. In general, cardholders are limited to 30 books at a time, while Books, audiobooks, and CDs have a two-week loan period, and there is a waiting list for checked-out materials.Returning Books
One of the great things about the Oklahoma City library system is that you don't have to return a book to the location from which you checked it out. It can be returned to any of the MLS locations. The only exception to this is an Inter-Library Loan item. Library locations also have convenient book drops.Overdue Fines
Overdue books are fined 10 cents per day to a maximum of $3.00 per item. This amount also applies to CDs and audiobooks. For videos and DVDs, though, the overdue fine is 50 cents per day to a maximum of $6.00 per item.Oklahoma City Library Locations & Hours
