Oklahoma Riverfest

By , About.com Guide

In Short:

2006 was the first year of Riverfest, and its popularity appears to have made it an annual event. Featuring dragon boat team racing, replica submarine race, bicycling events, live music, areas for the kids and much more, Riverfest is outdoor fun for the entire family. Here's a full profile of the event with all the information you need to attend.

Location:

Riverfest is held at Regatta Park near the Chesapeake Boathouse on the Oklahoma River. Entry is off Byers Avenue at 6th Street just south of I-40, and staging areas cover Byers and Durland by the River.

2009 Riverfest:

DUE TO SHORE CONSTRUCTION, THE 2009 RIVERFEST WILL NOT BE HELD

The 2008 Riverfest takes place on Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th from 8am to 5pm. A detailed schedule of events is available online.

Events:

Dragon Boat Team Race: Perhaps the most popular Riverfest event, the Dragon Boat challenge is a team event in which 20 rowers power colorfully decorated boats.

Oklahoma River Ride: 2008 will feature a bicycling event with three different options: a 30-mile challenge ride, a 16-mile ride and a 10-mile family friendly ride. Registration is available online.
Water Shows: Viewers can cheer on the professional water-skiers, jet-skiers, wake-boarders and other stunt performers.

Kidsplay:

Though watching the races and the parachute jumpers will undoubtedly thrill the kids, there's also a play area with slides, moon walks and more.

Launch Party:

Attend the launch party on Friday, June 6th from 6-9pm for Head Country barbecue and beverages from Belle Isle Brewery, Bricktown Brewery, Coaches and Oklahoma Wineries. Cost is $45, and reservations can be made by calling (405) 602-1531.
