In Short:
The Golf Channel will present the world's largest junior golf program of its kind at Oklahoma City's Lake Hefner Golf Club on Thursday, May 8th. Mutual of Omaha's Drive, Chip & Putt Challenge is a skills competition for kids aged 7-14, and the FREE registration is open on a first come, first serve basis.
Location:
Lake Hefner Golf Club is, of course, located on Oklahoma City's Lake Hefner. The club is on the southwest side of the lake, just north of Northwest Expressway, and includes a driving range, putting green and restaurant.
Registration:
Entry is free but is first come, first serve. Participants can register online through the Golf Channel website, at any Dick's Sporting Goods or by calling (405) 843-1565. The deadline for registration is May 7, and all kids will need parental consent.
The Competition:
Competition activities begin at 1pm. Kids can bring their own golf clubs or clubs can be provided. Competitors are divided into four separate age divisions: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Areas of competition include:
- Driving - The longest of 2 drives within 40-yard fairway is scored.
- Chipping - Points are awarded based on how close to the hole 3 chip shots come.
- Putting - Putting from both 5 feet and 15 feet, competitors are scored based on how few strokes it takes to make the putt.
Prizes:
Awards are given to the top five finishers in each age group. The top three places in each group are given trophies and are invited to the Regional Championship.
