In Short:

Long known as the "Myriad" after its opening in 1972, the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City received significant renovations and upgrades as part of the MAPS initiatives passed by Oklahoma City voters in late 1993. It was renamed in 2002 following a deal with Cox Communications. Today, the Cox Convention Center is Oklahoma City's primary multipurpose meeting complex and convention facility. It also contains an arena with over 32,000 square feet of floor space that hosts sporting events and concerts.

Location & Directions:

The Cox Convention center, on Sheridan between Robinson and E.K. Gaylord north of I-40, is located just across the street from another downtown OKC arena, the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Tickets for any Cox Convention Center event can be purchased not only through the individual event entities but also by calling the Cox Convention Center box office at (800) 745-3000. In addition, tickets can be ordered online or at Ticketmaster outlets such as participating Macy's, Homeland, Suncoast Movie Company, FYE and Sam Goody.

Box office payment options include cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.

Arena Seating:

Seating capacity and layouts differ depending upon the event and the configuration, but the Cox Convention Center arena holds over 13,000 for most sporting events. For concerts, capacity typically expands over 15,000. The arena includes three levels of seating as well as additional floor seating for many events.

A number of wheelchair accessible seating areas are also available throughout the arena.

Exhibit Hall and Meeting Rooms:

In addition to the arena, the Cox Convention Center has over 100,000 square feet of exhibit space, a ballroom and nearly 28,000 square feet of meeting rooms. The meeting rooms primarily house special events, catered dinners and corporate meetings of all sizes. The exhibit space is used for conventions, trade shows and other consumer exhibitions.

MAPS 3, approved by voters in 2009, includes construction of a new convention center downtown. But before it is completed, the Cox Convention Center will receive $4.5 million in improvements for AHL hockey, set to begin in the fall of 2010.
