Background:
The Arts Council of Oklahoma City has produced Opening Night in downtown Oklahoma City since 1987. With a family-friendly atmosphere that includes musical acts throughout the night, roller derby, impromptu comedy, magic shows and the fantastic fireworks display, Opening Night is the top way to ring in the new year for Oklahoma City residents.
The Arts Council of Oklahoma has been fostering artistic performance and presentation for years. They produce such city events as the Festival of the Arts, the Storytelling Festival, Out of the Box and Sunday Twilight Concerts. The Arts Council is sponsored Chesapeake Energy Corporation and Devon Energy Corporation, The Oklahoman, Ozarka and Sonic.
Date and Time:
December 31st, of course. Festivities last from 7 p.m. to midnight throughout downtown, from various venues to the city streets.
Final countdown begins at 11:30 p.m. with the fireworks scheduled for the moment the new year arrives on the Myriad Gardens Grand Lawn.

Cost:
Wristbands for Opening Night are $8 in advance and $10 at the event, with children 5 and under admitted free. They can be purchased as early as December 3rd at area 7-11 stores, Homelands, MidFirst Bank locations and Science Museum Oklahoma, as well as on the night of the festivities.

2013 Events:
- Performances: 9 venues around downtown will feature over 40 performances throughout the evening. Performers include Shortt Dogg, Hypnotist Steve Crawford, Squirrel & Friends, OKC Roller Derby, Oklahoma Youth Winds, Alegria Real, OKC Improv and many more.
- Other Entertainment: Out on the streets of Bricktown, you'll find entertainment such as a scavenger hunt, marching bands, dancers, clowns, magicians and more.
- Children's Area: The Children's Area will include activities such as face painting, crafts and more.
- The Finale: The final countdown to the new year begins at 11:30 p.m., and the fireworks display will adorn the sky as 2013 arrives.
