Those planning to have a garage sale in Moore should know that the city has rules and regulations governing garage or yard sales, similar to those in the Oklahoma City limits. So before having a garage sale in Moore, begin with the understanding that anyone wishing to have a garage sale must have a permit and a City of Moore sign to do so.
Permits & Signs
Garage sale permits are free, but City of Moore signs are $2 each. Both can be obtained at the City Hall Customer Service Counter (301 N. Broadway) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.A permit is good only for the address listed and for as many as three consecutive days. If it rains, the permit holder can return the permit to the city to obtain a rain check, good for a three-week period following the initially scheduled dates.
Regulations
- Each household is limited to a garage sale every 90 days.
- A City of Moore sign is required at the location of the sale, and as many as 5 signs may be purchased.
- Only City of Moore garage sale signs are allowed.
- Consult the city's building department or customer service at (405) 793-5032 for information on how and where one may place garage sale signs.
- Signs must be removed within 48 hours after the permit has expired, or a fine may be issued.
- These rules do not apply to situations "where specific items are held out for sale and all advertisement of such sale specifically names the items to be sold."
Fines
Failure to comply with the city of Moore regulations governing garage sales is punishable by a maximum fine of $500.Moore City Wide Garage Sale
Each year, the city of Moore establishes one weekend as the official Moore City Wide Garage Sale. During this time, no permit is required and any garage sale signs may be used, as long as you register for the event. Just before the established weekend, the city publishes a list and map of all the garage sales around town, and it becomes a shopping extravaganza. In recent years, more than 600 homes have signed up for the Moore City Wide Garage Sale event.The 2013 Moore City Wide Garage Sale will be held from Friday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 5th. Those wishing to participate can register online or by calling (405) 793-5000. Then, visit cityofmoore.com shortly before the event for a list of sales.
