Waste, Trash and Recycling in Del City

In charge of trash pickup in Del City, Oklahoma is the city's Sanitation Department. Here are some common questions regarding trash pickup, bulk pickup, schedules and recycling in Del City.

Where do I put my trash?

If you live within the limits of Del City, you are provided two poly-carts for your household waste, and trash service charges are billed monthly on your city utility account. In all likelihood, there will be a poly-cart at the residence, but if you are moving to town and there is not one there, you'll need to ask for one when initiating utility service at the city offices, 3701 SE 15th Street.

The city specifically says they will not pick up household garbage in any containers other than the provided poly-carts. Place your cart curbside, within 1 foot of the curb, by 6 a.m. on the morning of your pickup. Remember that pickup system is automated, so don't place carts behind a parked car, hedge or other obstruction.

For information on your specific day of collection, contact the Del City Sanitation Department at (405) 671-2873.

What if one cart is not enough?

The city of Del City has additional poly-carts available for an additional charge, currently $3 per month. To get one, simply call (405) 671-2820.

What if I'm not physically capable of placing the cart by the curb?

No problem. A Del City sanitation truck driver would be happy to help. Just call (405) 671‐2873 for information.

What about grass cuttings, tree limbs or Christmas trees?

You have a couple of options available to you for these items. First, If your poly-cart is completely full, Del City allows as many as 6 bags (weighing no more than 30 pounds each) of yard waste (NOT household waste) to be placed next to the cart for regular pickup. Just make sure the bags are within 5 feet of the cart.

Next, you can schedule an individual item pickup by calling (405) 671- 2820. The city offers this service for a number of items.

Finally, understand that Del City residents can get a discount rate at the landfill located on Bryant Avenue, just north of 1-240. The facility is open 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the week and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday. A Del City water bill and photo identification is required. For questions, call (405) 672-7379.

What about bulk items?

The final two options above apply here as well. Individual pickups for bulk items such as sofas, appliances or furniture can be schedule by calling (405) 671-2820. Or they can be dropped off at the landfill.

Other than yard waste, is there anything I can't throw away?

Yes. You should never dispose of tires, batteries or hazardous chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides and swimming pool chemicals. The landfill will not accept these items either. Also, Del City specifies residents not put building materials into poly-carts, things like bricks, boards, sheetrock, concrete or dirt.

So what do I do with those hazardous materials?

You can take materials such as paint, pesticides, florescent light bulbs, batteries and chemicals to the Stormwater Quality Management Division in nearby Midwest City. To schedule a drop-off by calling (405) 739-1352. Items are received on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Does Del City provide recycling services?

No, not at this time. However, note that many schools and churches in town have green and yellow recycling bins for newspapers and magazines. Home improvement stores Home Depot and Lowes will recycle some recyclable batteries, auto parts stores can recycle motor oil, and electronics store Best Buy has a program for recycling used electronics.
