According to AAA, Four Diamond Award recipients are the best of the best, exemplifying the "upper echelon of the hospitality industry." Created in 1963 and renamed in honor of the association's diamond (75th) anniversary in 1977, the Diamond Rating System ranks AAA-approved hotels and restaurants across the country based on facilities, amenities, and service. For example, a One Diamond establishment might be a very basic motel while one designated with the Five Diamond rating represents the truly luxurious.
The new 2013 Diamond Awards were announced recently, and though Oklahoma City didn't have any Five Diamond recipients, a few usual suspects were named Four Diamond Award winners yet again: Waterford Marriott (for the 17th consecutive year), Renaissance Hotel (for the 11th consecutive year) and the Skirvin Hilton Hotel (for the 6th consecutive year). Obviously, they highlight the list of the best hotels in OKC. And on the restaurant side, the Coach House earned a Four Diamond Award as well, its 13th consecutive recognition.
Four Diamond winners represent less than 4 percent of diamond-rated establishments in the United States while Five Diamond properties are about 0.27 percent of the total.
