It's been several years since I've watched "American Idol," but I may have to check out the next few weeks of the popular FOX singing competition just to see our great city. As you recall, auditions were held at the Chesapeake Energy Arena last July, and the show is sure to include both inside and outside crowd shots. In addition, the production returned for fall callbacks in the Oklahoma River Boathouse District, a growing area that should look wonderful on television.
According to a NewsOK article, this week's shows, which include the Wednesday night premiere, chronicle New York and Chicago auditions, but Oklahoma City will get the spotlight in coming weeks. "American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said after his visit, "Oklahoma City was nothing how I imagined it." As with the tremendous success of the Thunder, it's another way for the nation to get a glimpse of what our city has to offer.
1/31 Update: The OKC portion will air tonight.
