The 2010-2011 Myriad Gardens renovations were a rousing success if you ask me, and I've become a regular on the outdoor grounds. But did you know they also have a number of interesting programs and events at the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory? For example, on January 21st, there's "The Peanut Man," a class on George Washington Carver in which participants plant and take home a peanut to watch grow. Or on the 26th, create a miniature landscape in a glass container as part of "All About Terrariums."
Here's a cool one for the kids. Best for the little ones ages 3-5, the Wednesday "Reading Rainforest" series includes a story reading, craft activity and a hike through the Crystal Bridge rainforest. The upcoming schedule:
- 1/16: "The Umbrella" by Jan Brett
- 1/23: "Children of the Forest" by Elsa Maartman
- 1/30: "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly, said the Sloth" by Eric Carle
All of the Crystal Bridge programs are either free or significantly discounted for Myriad Gardens members. Get details on membership, and sign up to receive the In the Gardens newsletter for information on classes and events.
