It wouldn't be a change for most of the students in the Oklahoma City Public Schools district. According to officials, 57 of the district's 74 individual schools have already instituted a uniform requirement. The other 17 must do so as well, though, if the Board of Education accepts the recommendation of a task force charged with evaluating the district's dress code. If approved, the district-wide uniform policy would allow individual schools to choose uniforms "within the parameters" of the policy. There would also be a district standard that could be worn at all schools, and exceptions would be made for special dress days.
What do you think of the idea, and school uniforms in general? OKCPS is seeking public input and intends to make a final decision in February. Dress code changes would go into effect for the 2013-2014 school year.
