The holiday shopping season used to have its unofficial opening the day after Thanksgiving, but it all keeps getting earlier and earlier. This year, many of the big-box retailers are actually starting their Black Friday specials as early as Thanksgiving evening. About.com Guide to Couponing Donna Montaldo has some Black Friday shopping tips and Wendy Boswell, the About.com Guide to Web Search, breaks down the best websites for Black Friday shopping.
I have a suggestion as well... In the desperate pursuit of bargains this weekend, don't overlook the many fantastic local establishments. For example, the Plaza District is promoting Black Friday deals at several of its stores, discounts on unique items you simply won't find anywhere else. And the Myriad Gardens will feature a series of local pop-up shops this holiday season.
You may already be familiar with Keep it Local OK, a group dedicated to promoting locally owned and independent businesses. Its rewards card, available for only $10 a year, earns discounts and specials at participating business all across the metro area, and the 2013 version is now available.
