I remember plenty of grizzling back in 2008 when the Oklahoma City Thunder logo and colors were revealed, even some from yours truly. Now, we get another look to debate. On Friday, the defending Western Conference champs donned a new alternate uniform against Detroit at the Chesapeake Arena. With a vertical "Thunder" in white, block text on navy blue, the alternates will be worn one more time at home and ten times on the road this season. Jerseys, hats and shorts are available for purchase at nbathundershop.com.
Though sales have been brisk thus far, opinions are mixed. A NewsOK.com survey showed that nearly 60 percent disapproved of the alternate uniform design, and the Tulsa World headlined "They're just kind of boring." Many are claiming the navy doesn't seem to fit. Either way, I bet they'll be a hot Christmas item this year.
By the way, if you haven't seen it yet, the New York Times has an excellent article about the Thunder and Oklahoma City entitled "A Basketball Fairy Tale in Middle America". It's a great read.
