Recently, feature films "3:10 to Yuma" and "True Grit" have joined the honored, as have the HBO film "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" and the western novel "Impatient with Desire." The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum's Western Heritage Awards seek to recognize the "great stories of the West," the best in Western film, television, literature and music. With a list of winners that includes John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner and many more, the awards began in 1960, even before the museum opened, and nominations are now being accepted for the 52nd annual edition.

Creative works can be nominated in 16 categories that include everything from theatrical films, novels and albums to television news features, photography books and poetry. Full category descriptions, entry guidelines and forms are available for download, and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on April 20th.
