Oklahoma has seen its share of movie projects with well-known celebrities the last couple of years, from Milla Jovovich in Famke Janssen's "Bringing Up Bobby" to Jessica Alba, Casey Affleck and Kate Hudson in "The Killer Inside Me." Then, Terrence Malick's drama "To the Wonder," starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams, was filmed in the Bartlesville and Tulsa areas two years ago. It is slated to premiere later this month at the Venice Film Festival. That's plenty of star power in our humble home state, but it doesn't come close to the Hollywood royalty we soon will welcome.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Oklahoma native Tracy Letts, the film "August: Osage County" begins shooting September 24th in Bartlesville. The dark comedy/drama stars Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts as mother and daughter in a dysfunctional Pawhuska family. The cast also includes Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin and Juliette Lewis.
