As it's the weekend before Valentine's Day, many in OKC undoubtedly will be getting out for their holiday dates and activities. I'm not sure I believe next week's winter weather projections; either way, this weekend should be clear but cold.

Luckily, a number of the weekend's top events are indoor affairs, and downtown is the place to be for a couple of the biggest. At the Cox Convention Center is the Nadia Comanechi Gymnastics Invitational Friday through Sunday. See the official site for a competition schedule. Then, over at the Chesapeake Arena, the PBR series features the top bull riding athletes in the world through Sunday. Tickets are available online or by calling (800) 745-3000.

Elsewhere this weekend...

  • On Saturday and Sunday, the Oklahoma City Ballet presents "The Firebird," a brand new retelling of one of 20th century's most influential ballets from the Ballet Russes era.
  • What goes better with Valentine's Day than chocolate? This weekend brings yet another chocolate festival... The Yukon Chocolate Festival will be held Saturday at Robertson Activity Center, an event in which more than 20 local businesses offer chocolate delights. For admission information, see cityofyukonok.gov.
  • On stage, it's your last chance to catch Lyric at the Plaza's "Xanadu," an over-the-top roller-skating musical spoof of the 1980's Olivia Newton-John film. The production closes Saturday.
  • Similarly, the Oklahoma Children's Theatre production of "The Teddy Bear's Picnic" at Oklahoma City University concludes on Friday.
  • And there's "Same Time Next Year" at the Civic Center's City Space Theatre this weekend from the Oklahoma City Theatre Company.
  • The Thunder is on the road for a Friday night game in Utah, then returns home on Valentine's Day.
  • Saturday brings the Frigid Five Miler at Edmond's Mitch Park, with a five mile run and one mile fun run. For registration information, call (405) 359-4630.
  • Science Museum Oklahoma opens a new exhibit this weekend entitled "Out of the Box." For the first exhibition, 13 Oklahoma companies have submitted a "work of creativity which celebrates the inherent scientific and aesthetic quality of the world around us."
  • In music, hear the blues sounds of the Selby Minner Band at the Blue Door on Saturday. Tickets are available at bluedoorokc.com.
  • Or enjoy the music along with the shopping, art and more at the Plaza District's monthly LIVE on the Plaza event this Friday.
  • Head to State Fair Park through Sunday for the always-popular "An Affair of the Heart," an arts and crafts show that is perfect for the Valentine's Day state of mind.
  • And finally among the highlights, the OKC Museum of Art will show 2012 Academy Award nominated shorts and documentaries this weekend.

Are you attending any of the above events, or has something else caught your eye this weekend? Let us know below. You can submit future events for publication and possible profile here on About Oklahoma City by using this form.
