OKC Weekend Highlights: 6/19-6/21
Friday June 19, 2009
It's all for the dads this weekend as Father's Day brings special events and discounts at metro attractions. For example, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History offers free holiday admission from 1 to 5 p.m. as does the National Memorial Museum from 1 to 6 p.m. The Orr Family Farm has a big event that features a toe-fishing contest, a tractor pedal pull contest and a cow milking contest. I have some Father's Day gift and activity ideas to help you plan the day, and post in the comments below what you enjoy doing for the holiday in OKC.Elsewhere, the OKC Zoo holds Zoobilation 2009 this Friday evening. There will be food, a silent auction, live entertainment and more. Eagle Lake Park in Del City is the site for the 2009 Oklahoma Remote Controlled Boat Regatta all weekend, the biggest remote-controlled event in the state according to organizers. Admission is free, and more information is available on the official site. And the Oklahoma History Center has the Folklife Festival on Saturday, with a storytelling "liar's contest" and much more.
On stage, Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park brings "As You Like It" to the Myriad Gardens Water Stage. Get ticket information online. And the Oklahoma Children's Theatre Presents "Cinderella" at Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center on the OCU campus this weekend. See the official site for more information.
In music, Frontier City will have Grand Funk Railroad on Saturday, part of the park's summer concert series. And Riverwind Casino has country star Lee Ann Womack Friday night.
