Some Final Thunder Numbers

Sunday April 19, 2009
The sun has set on the inaugural season of the Oklahoma City's new NBA team, and much went completely as expected on the court. While few would've anticipated the Thunder having such a rough start, losing 13 of the first 14, the final record of 23-59 was right in line with preseason projections. The young squad had flashes of brilliance and moments of frustration, and all the analysts continue to say how bright the future looks.

For Oklahoma City, though, this honeymoon season was about far more than on-court success. After all, we had a lot to prove. And in that regard, we can be incredibly proud of the fact that support for the Thunder blew away expectations. Here are some final numbers:
  • In 41 home games at the Ford Center, there were 18 sell-outs, including an 8-game sellout streak in the final month
  • The total arena capacity of 97.7 during the season ranked 9th in the NBA
  • Total attendance of 18,704 ranked 11th in the NBA
  • Over 13,000 season tickets were sold in 5 days
These are some impressive numbers for a city that critics asserted didn't have the ability to support an NBA team, and all of you Thunder fans should give yourselves a hand. Of course, the work is not over. Many of those same critics predicted our support would wane in subsequent years. I have a feeling we'll prove them wrong again.

Nice success on the tickets…the television games were horrendous and according to friends who know…the ratings were absolutlely in the tank. No one is watching the games on television.

No Blair, the team announced all season tickets will stay the same price per game next season.
