Reports Says Oklahoma Schools Improving Slightly

Each year, Education Week magazine releases the "Quality Counts" report grading the country's educational systems by state. In the 2009 survey, Oklahoma was near the middle of the pack, ranked 26th overall. That's a slight improvement from the 28th spot a year before. Oklahoma scored a 76.1, just slightly below the national average of 76.2, based on the categories: Standards and Assessment, Transitions and Alignment, Teaching Profession, School Finance, K-12 Achievement and Chance for Success.

The Education Week report is a nationally-respected publication, and it's nice to be able to point to improvements for the state. But I've written about the "Quality Counts" survey before, and at times it's difficult to compare yearly results because the categories of analysis change so frequently. For example, notice different criteria for 2006 and 2007.

Nevertheless, it's still a helpful guide for what areas need continued improvement and to see how we compare to other states. For example, Oklahoma scored an A+ for Standards, Assessments and Accountability while our overall school spending earned an F.

Well, I can’t say I see any improvement since the educational cluster of females are or have been pregnant – therefore missing school. And another interesting fact – you should call *Edit to Remove Name* whose sons attend the Moore ISD and has faced so many problems – in fact the school threatened her son – who is in the 11th grade with sending him back to the 9th – when he has already completed it. They are retesting students with no merit, threatening and the teachers do not teach. You want a story – contact that lady. She can fill you in on some facts that people should care about.

When my three sons were in school, I used to say, “Let’s pay for ‘em now, or pay for ‘em later.” Meaning…produce better built schools, provide suppplies and the latest in technology, pay our teachers better to draw the very best to Oklahoma… and the list goes on….
Or, build more prisons and look at the average cost of housing an inmate.
