OKC Weekend Highlights: 11/21-11/23
Friday November 21, 2008
It's time to get into that holiday spirit. As Thanksgiving approaches, some of the best light displays around the metro get started this weekend. Yukon's Christmas in the Park has opening night on Friday with the Kris Kringle Karnival, Chill Your Cheeks Run, horse-drawn carriage rides, live holiday music, pictures with Santa and more. And Midwest City's Holiday Lights Spectacular at the Joe B. Barnes Regional Park opens as well. This weekend also brings a visit from an old friend. There will be some conflicting emotions as Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets return to the city where they were embraced so passionately. We'll root for the Thunder, of course, and we'll do so despite their horrible start. But you can bet OKC fans will give the Hornets a hearty applause for the pre-game. Thunder Alley festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. on the streets outside the arena with live music, games and more.
Elsewhere in sports, Norman will undoubtedly be a popular place on Saturday as the Sooners host the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Tickets are pretty hard to come by, and Norman police are warning of counterfeit ticket scams for this game that eliminates one team from the National Championship picture.
Elsewhere, the Blazers will be in town for a Sunday game against Texas. And the Looney Bin Comedy Club on Rockwell will have hypnotist Alan Sands on Friday.
