OKC Weekend Highlights: 9/5-9/7
Friday September 5, 2008
It's a packed weekend around OKC. First, though, you should head out to the Brick to support the Oklahoma Redhawks as they take on the Iowa Cubs in playoff action. After the first two in Iowa, the series is tied at 1-1, and the Redhawks hope to win it at home this weekend. There are even a bunch of specials including $1 beer and soft drinks.Did you know this weekend also brings Grandparent's Day? Several metro attractions have holiday specials and events, and there are a number of ways you can celebrate, including Septemberfest at the 80-year-old Governor's Mansion. The free event hosted by the Governor and First Lady features entertainment for kids and families alike. Call (405) 557-0198 for more information.
On stage, you can check out the Celebrity Attractions production of "Mamma Mia!" at the Civic Center Music Hall. Or take the kids to the Ford Center for "Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh." Tickets for the latter can be purchased online or by calling (405) 235-8288.
Elsewhere around the metro, Choctaw holds their annual Oktoberfest in the Park. Head to Choctaw Creek Park for unique German cuisine and imported beers. Mustang's Annual Western Days, a free community-wide event, include a rodeo, parade, music, entertainment, car show and more. Get full details on the official site. Finally in music, check out the award-winning husband and wife duo "The Dust Devils" performing original Americana-style songs at the Blue Door Saturday. I have venue information, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
