The Invaluable Teachings of Dr. Phil

This note goes out to all of those who have criticized my list of the Top Famous Oklahomans in the creative industries, notably the inclusion of Vinita native Dr. Phil McGraw. That list was written a couple of years ago, I believe, and I still get e-mails on it. Yes, I reply nicely, #10 is slightly tongue-in-cheek. Joke or not, I have finally been vindicated.

The Oklahoman reported yesterday the story of a 75-year-old metro woman who fought off a would-be rapist using techniques learned from, you guessed it, the great Dr. Phil. The longtime syndicated talk show host advised kicking in the groin and poking eyes as effective defense strategies, and the woman used both, also hitting the attacker with a cordless telephone. The suspect is now in the Oklahoma County jail. Take that Dr. Phil haters...
