So it's the middle of the week, hump day for those trudging through the workweek grind. Sounds like the perfect time to check out the grand opening of James E. McNellie's Public House, a new Irish pub at NW 10th and Walker in Midtown. From 6 to 9 p.m., there will be bagpipe music and live bands to compliment the 300 varieties of bottled beer and 60 draft beer choices.

I've been to the original McNellie's in Tulsa and was very impressed. The beverage options are one thing, but they also have some really fantastic menu items, from burgers and sandwiches to unique Irish favorites. If the OKC location is comparable, and I expect it will be, I'll likely be revising the list of my favorite neighborhood pubs and sports bars.

I would like information about the international district’s restaurants. There was a great write up in the New York Times last year. I didn’t see the international district in your list of neighborhoods. Am I missing something?

I have a long list of things to get to as there’s plenty to write about around the metro. The Asian District is definitely on it.

Adam- I overheard some people talking about a restaurant/bar/pub/bistro that had a Roaring 20s theme. Are you familiar with it and can you give me some details?

Charlie – Not off the top of my head. I read something about a place similar to that, but I believe it’s coming to Tulsa – maybe even in the BOK center if I remember correctly.

In regards to the Roaring 20s period, I’ve heard of a place called The Prohibition Room (though this is more related to the 30s and 40s but may be what you’re thinking of)…we bought half price certificates and it’s coming soon… http://www.prohibitionroom.com …not a real extensive menu but a nice cocktail list and some chicago influence it seems.

Thanks Bret. Yes, the Prohibition Room didn’t come to mind when he mentioned roaring 20’s. I’m definitely looking forward to trying it out.

okc-
Do you have some good recommendations for Mediterranean, Asian and French fare around the city? I want to try to some new cuisine and while I’ve had a decent amount of Asian, it’d be nice to find a place that is more authentic and not all of the same “takeout” joints. My parents have been to some Mediterranean and Asian markets and perhaps you’d suggest these? I’ve just started reading this site/blog and look forward to continuing. Thanks!

Glad to have you on board, Bret. Hope you stick around. The truth is that my gig here with About has really allowed me to get out there and sample the restaurant landscape here in OKC. Unfortunately, I’m just scratching the surface. I’m guessing that if you’ve had a “decent amount,” you may have a broader knowledge base there than I. I’d recommend starting a thread in the discussion forum. Maybe you’ll get some thoughts from other OKC residents.
