Official Oklahoma Rock Song

Thursday April 10, 2008
In the 2008 session, legislators are conquering big issues such as the budget, guns on college campuses, health issues and... rock songs? Concurrent Resolution 1047 will create a committee to review rock song submissions by Oklahomans with the intent of declaring an official state rock song. Hey, we have an official state everything else, right?

The Oklahoma Historical Society has created a website where Oklahomans can nominate their favorite tunes, and voting on the top 10 will take place between September 1st and November 15th of 2008. The rather interesting list of nominees already includes tunes from Oklahoma natives like The All-American Rejects and The Flaming Lips. But it also includes "MMMBop" from Hanson. Would that really qualify as a rock song?

So what are you going to nominate? What should be Oklahoma's official rock song?

Update (9/5) - The committee has released the list of finalists. See which 10 made the cut and find out how to vote for the official Oklahoma rock song here.
