The Great OKC Pizza Hunt

Thursday June 1, 2006
Readers and visitors of About OKC, I need your help. I'm on a mission this summer to find the absolute best pizza in Oklahoma City, and I need your recommendations. As my own tremendous sacrifice, I will be taking a tour of the metro, sampling the pizza tastes as I go and documenting my efforts. By the end of the summer, I will name Oklahoma City's best pizza places.

This list will be different than some of my others in that I want as much reader participation as possible. Tell me which places I just can't miss, which ones are your family favorites. If you're the owner or operator of a pizza restaurant, let me know you'd like to be included. This will be my most extensive examination of Oklahoma City food yet, so what better item to do than pizza?

There's a thread set up at the OKC discussion forum to leave your favorites or you can send me an e-mail. With your help, we'll cut through all the noise and get simple. Who has the best pizza in OKC?

Hard to beat Hideaway in my opinion. We go to the one in Norman but I think there are others.

I second Jo’s in Purcell. Not sure if that’s out of the metro or not. I also like Pizza House, I think it’s on Penn.

Thanks guys! Keep them coming. I hadn’t planned on doing places outside the immediate metro just because that could open up a ton of possibilities. But I’ve received several e-mails about the place in Purcell, so I may have to take the drive.

Bellini’s wood fired oven produces a fabulous pizza, the Greek (with Feta, tomato, calamata olives and artichoke hearts and more) is among the best. Also the white pizza (alfredo sauce instead of red, with chicken) is a winner. The margeurita (no sauce, lots of diced tomatoes and even more garlic) is a classic. They have the best textured crust anywhere, and add the wood flavor. MMMMMMMMM……

Bart is making himself hungry… :-)

You’re right indeed Bart. I haven’t had a pizza from Bellini’s in a while, so they’re on my list to review for the Pizza search as well.

I THINK THE BEST PIZZA IS NEW YORK PIZZA IN NORMAN. IT IS IN CAMPUS CORNER AT THE UNIVERSITY. I LIVE IN OKLAHOMA CITY AND WE DRIVE OUT THERE JUST TO EAT THERE.

Buzz’s Subs, in Norman, makes a fantastic pizza (their subs are excellent too!).

The best pizza in Oklahoma City—-hands down—was from Tommy’s in NorthPark mall. However, since Tommy decided to closer ‘er up and remodel it into a hideous Poblano Grill— we will never have that pizza again. But, at his Bellini’s Restaurant, the pizza is also quite excellent—just not as excellent as Tommy’s. My favorite is the shrimp pizza with pesto sauce. It has the bext tasting crust and if it’s cooked well-done, the crust is crispy, flavorful, and the pesto and ingredients don’t weigh down the crust. The end result is pretty much perfection. Hands down– it IS the best pizza in Oklahoma City.

If there are any Godfather’s Pizza places still around OK, that is one joint that might be worth checking out.
