PGA Practice Day With Pictures

Monday May 22, 2006
The first day of the Senior PGA Championship week at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond was a practice day. That meant a fairly relaxed atmosphere in which visitors were able to snap pictures and hope for an autograph opportunity with some of the legends of golf.

I started bright and early as I didn't want to miss the first practice tee, and I was immediately amazed by the beauty of the course. As a less-than-knowledgable golf fan, I can't speak to its difficulty, though it's said to be quite high. But the landscape is absolutely gorgeous.

As the sun got high and the day quite hot, I moved from hole to hole watching the players take their practice shots from the tee. Many would record notes of each hole, it appeared, scribbling in books the various challenges they would face. Most spent great lengths of time on each green, putting back and forth to determine how fast it plays and what techniques might be needed come Championship time. It was quite a fascinating opportunity watching them study the course.

Speaking of the course, come back tomorrow for more details on the layout and many of the unique things I noticed. For now, here is an image gallery of the first day of practice action. There will be many more images to come.

Also, stop by the discussion forum and discuss the day's golf action.
